Obama has saved dozens of hostages ,bought the death toll in Iraq down to almost zero for American soldiers,captured dozens of high ranking al qeida ,took the offensive in Afghanistan to the point where some troops are leaving early, stopped dozens of major terrorist attacks on the US and has ensured no American civilians have died during these attacks ,is holding major corporations to be accountable ie Toyota , and revived the economy to the tune of almost 6,000 points (a record number) in a year and also stopped the jobs from hemmeraging, Is every the phoney baloney republican and tea party anger just sour grapes because they couldn't or wouldn't accomplish it ? Isn't this the same type of reaction when black atheletes outdid their white counterparts ie tiger woods or Jackie Robinson or Joe Johnson why is it that every time a black man makes an accomplishment there's always this undercurrent of sour grapes if you keep your lips puckered your face is gonna stay that way , why so salty ? Release date: Jan. 24, 2006 Emory Study Lights Up the Political Brain When it comes to forming opinions and making judgments on hot political issues, partisans of both parties don't let facts receive in the way of their decision-making, according to a new Emory University study. The research sheds light on why staunch Democrats and Republicans can hear the same information, but walk away with opposite conclusions. The investigators used functional neuroimaging (fMRI) to study a sample of committed Democrats and Republicans during the three months prior to the U.S. Presidential election of 2004. The Democrats and Republicans were given a reasoning task in which they had to evaluate threatening information about their possess candidate. During the task, the subjects underwent fMRI to look what parts of their brain were active. What the researchers found was striking. "We did not look any increased activation of the parts of the brain normally engaged during reasoning," says Drew Westen, director of clinical psychology at Emory who led the study. "What we saw instead was a network of emotion circuits lighting up, including circuits hypothesized to be involved in regulating emotion, and circuits known to be involved in resolving conflicts." Westen and his colleagues will gift their findings at the Annual Conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology Jan. 28. Once partisans had arrive to completely biased conclusions — essentially finding ways to ignore information that could not be rationally discounted — not only did circuits that mediate negative emotions like sadness and disgust turn off, but subjects got a blast of activation in circuits involved in reward — similar to what addicts receive when they receive their fix, Westen explains. "None of the circuits involved in conscious reasoning were particularly engaged," says Westen. "Essentially, it appears as if partisans twirl the cognitive kaleidoscope until they receive the conclusions they want, and then they receive massively reinforced for it, with the elimination of negative emotional states and activation of positive ones." During the study, the partisans were given 18 sets of stimuli, six each regarding President George W. Bush, his challenger, Senator John Kerry, and politically neutral male control figures such as actor Tom Hanks. For each set of stimuli, partisans first read a statement from the target (Bush or Kerry). The first statement was followed by a second statement that documented a clear contradiction between the target's words and deeds, generally suggesting that the candidate was dishonest or pandering. Next, partisans were asked to consider the discrepancy, and then to rate the extent to which the person's words and deeds were contradictory. Finally, they were presented with an exculpatory statement that might explain away the apparent contradiction, and asked to reconsider and again rate the extent to which the target's words and deeds were contradictory. Behavioral data showed a pattern of emotionally biased reasoning: partisans denied obvious contradictions for their possess candidate that they had no difficulty detecting in the opposing candidate. Importantly, in both their behavioral and neural responses, Republicans and Democrats did not differ in the way they responded to contradictions for the neutral control targets, such as Hanks, but Democrats responded to Kerry as Republicans responded to Bush. While reasoning about apparent contradictions for their possess candidate, partisans showed activations throughout the orbital frontal cortex, indicating emotional processing and presumably emotion regulation strategies. There also were activations in areas of the brain associated with the experience of unpleasant emotions, the processing of emotion and conflict, and judgments of forgiveness and moral accountability. Notably absent were any increases in activation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain most associated with reasoning (as well as conscious efforts to suppress emotion). The finding suggests that the emotion-driven processes that guide to biased judgments likely occur outside of awareness, and are distinct from normal reasoning processes when emotion is not so heavily engaged, says Westen. The investigators hypothesize that emotionally biased reasoning leads to the "stamping in" or reinforcement of a defensive belief, associating the participant's "revisionist" account of the data with positive emotion or relief and elimination of distress. "The result is that partisan beliefs are calcified, and the person can learn very little from new data," Westen says. The study has potentially wide implications, from politics to business, and demonstrates that emotional bias can play a strong role in decision-making, Westen says. "Everyone from executives and judges to scientists and politicians may reason to emotionally biased judgments when they have a vested interest in how to interp

Open Question: If private property is not inalienable, can anybody really be said to own anything?
If everybody does not agree that I possess my property and that nobody has a right to take it from me, even by majority vote of the legislature or of the activist judges on the Supreme Court, then can I really be said to possess anything? If my property can be taken from me at the whims of a bunch of "progressive" politicians (with the "conservatives" who pretend to believe in private property constantly retreating as the "progressives" win battle after battle), then do I really possess it? What is the point of pretending that private property exists in our current society when a bunch of "progressives" (whose policies, if consistently followed, would send us back to the rock Age) claim the "right" to steal anything they want by a majority vote of the legislature whenever they feel like it? Open Question: Do Canadians support/oppose paying the GST tax?
Rather than paying more in progressive income tax and eliminating GST completely? GST, unlike Income Tax, cannot be on a graduated scale where the more one person earns, the higher their marginal taxrate. If every goods and services are subject to GST, it would be like a Flat Tax. This is worse for the needy and better for the wealthy than the same revenue in the form of an Income Tax. In the U.S., there are politicians who have proposed a National Sales Tax which would be like the GST. Ironically the highest sales taxes are in Southern towns right now, I was surprised to learn. These are the places that are for the Republican party because they apparently do not support income tax. Do Canadians think the GST has been good for Canada? also it's possible southern US states/municipalities are extra raising their sales taxes to fuel frustration from their residents that they would blindly cast on Obama's administration.

Why don't Repubs like lowered costs, more insured, and longer lives? Canada, France and Germany spend 10-15% of GDP on health care we spend 22% (and rising) and don't even cover everyone! So cons like it that we pay more and receive less?? Mortality rate here is higher than other western countries too. Why don't Republicans want to receive more and pay less? The republican party had him removed or prevented him from getting on ballots during the last election. RP was the only real conservative running but instead we're given McInsane and McPalin as our option!? Republicans haven't been about less government in a very long time. Republicans cherry pick what to be conservative on. Inconsistant hypocrites is how I view their party. I am not asking about Democrats. I am a Registered Republican, but I consider myself to be a Libertarian. I am fed up with the Republicans creating less government for corporations, but more Government for people like you and me. Hey what would happen if the current tax code was replaced with a "Fair Tax". More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairTax The Fair Tax would make things economically better for every of us. Businesses and the wealthy people won't be taxed nearly as much. More hiring would be possible if the Fair Tax was in play and it may encourage more saving since it taxes consumption. Yeah there is the risk for fraud but isn't it rampant in this current system too? Republicans nor Democrats in Washington do not want this system simply because they both work for separate interests, unfortunately, they do not work for the people's interest (lousy bastards). My final point; if you had a choice in staying on this tax code or going with the fair tax code; which do you believe would be more beneficial for America?

Christians are like the Republican party in that the republicans are criticizing the democrat's health care plan but do not propose their possess health care plan. Christians are the same way-they claim that there is no evidence for evolution but offer no evidence for their creationist myth. If you are going to champion creationism you have to offer proof for it, rather than just trying to disprove evolution.
